pib@school goes pib.Education: Making robotics & AI accessible to STEM talents

In October of 2022, we set out on a mission: To bring robotics and AI into classrooms all over Germany. What started out as pib@school has since then taken on new dimensions – pib is now serving as a hands-on learning platform for STEM-related topics in schools, universities, media and training centers and further education across Germany and even other parts of the world. Therefore, we felt like the name “pib@school” is not doing this program justice anymore – it was time for a renaming and “pib.Education” was born.

Early Beginnings

It all started out with our pioneer project. The Hans-Sachs-Gymnasium in Nuremberg, Germany, was the first to launch their own elective named “pib – the humanoid robot from the 3D printer” in 2022. In this elective, students 3D printed, built and activated their very own pib with the support of their teachers and the pib team. Since pib is an Open-Source project, they were invited to make their own adjustments from the beginning and chose a colorful approach. 😊 All along, the program was paired with theoretical knowledge such as electric circuits, physical forces, programming languages, etc.

Next in line was the Ernestinum Coburg who picked up the pib@school project for their P-Seminar “Artificial intelligence in practice – the humanoid robot pib”. As the second school to adapt the program, together with the HSG, they helped send pib@school on its way to greater things.

We also created the pib.Academy which offers insightful teaching materials and background information for teachers making the topics easy to understand and connect them to real life. pib is a humanoid robot after all and many of its functionalities are based on human biology.

From Nuremberg Out Into The World

Since then, the pib@school initiative has grown rapidly. It was adapted for vacation courses, project based seminars, and even research and university projects. By now, it has become an integral part of teaching and learning in over 50 educational centers of all sorts in Europe and even made it all the way to Kazakhstan and Peru!

The possibilities for using pib in education are basically endless. To name a few, pib so far is doing its magic in

  • Elective courses 8th grade and up
  • Project Based Seminars
  • Study programs for teachers
  • Training organizations
  • Vacation courses
  • Project weeks
  • Working groups
  • Jugend Forscht

Some of these even won awards for their amazing work and creativity.

Working on a relaunch of our pib@school landing page, we decided it was not only time for a new layout and more detailed information, but also for a new name and pib.Education was born. To see what pib.Education is all about, check out our brand-new page. Curious? We’d love to welcome you on board our pib community.
