What tools do I need to assemble the pib robot?

You do not need expensive specialized equipment to assemble pib. Standard household and maker tools are completely sufficient:

  • Hex Keys / Allen Wrenches: Standard metric sizes (1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, and 3.0 mm). Hex screwdrivers with comfortable grips make assembly significantly faster.
  • Small Needle-Nose Pliers: For holding nuts and reaching into tighter 3D-printed sections.
  • Flush Cutters / Side Cutters: For trimming zip ties, filament strands, and tendon lines.
  • Fine Tweezers: Helpful for routing delicate cables and threading finger tendons through the hands.

Do I need to solder?

  • No soldering required! Thanks to pib#5’s centralized Plug & Power connector system, all electronics, sensors, and servo motors plug together cleanly without any wire soldering—making assembly safe and ideal for classrooms.
