Is pib an autonomous robot, and how does it make decisions?
No. pib is an educational and open-source research platform, not an uncontrolled autonomous agent. It always operates under human direction following a strict “Human-in-the-Loop” principle.
How pib acts and makes “decisions”:
- Deterministic Programming (Default): pib executes logic created by students and developers—whether through visual logic blocks in Blockly, custom Python scripts, or ROS 2 nodes. It moves exactly as programmed.
- Manual & Remote Control: Users can control joints, gestures, and poses directly in real time using sliders or saved sequences in the Cerebra web interface.
- Interactive AI & Perception: When using advanced features (like the depth camera or TRYB.ai voice integration), pib responds dynamically to sensory inputs—such as tracking a moving face or answering spoken questions—within clearly defined, safe task boundaries.
Safety in the Classroom:
Because pib is an open white-box system without secret background autonomy, educators and students always maintain full control over every action and motor movement.
