How much filament is required to print a complete pib robot?
Printing all 3D-printable parts for a complete pib#5 robot requires approximately 10.7 kg of filament in total net weight.
To account for standard 1 kg spools, purge lines, and print calibration, we recommend planning with 11 to 12 kg of PETG.
Official Filament Breakdown by Weight (pib#5):
- Body & Torso: ~5.3 kg
- Both Arms (Left & Right): ~3.3 kg
- Head & Neck: ~1.6 kg
- Both Hands & Fingers: ~0.5 kg (including TPU inserts)
Recommended Color Distribution (Original pib Look):
According to the official pib#5 color scheme, the parts are split into two primary colors:
- White (PETG): ~6 kg (e.g., face, chest covers, outer arm shells)
- Black (PETG): ~5 kg (e.g., structural frame, neck segments, joint connectors)
- Flexible TPU (Optional): ~30 to 50 g (for soft finger pads and grip inserts)
Practical Buying Tip:
Since filament is typically sold in standard 1 kg spools, we recommend purchasing 6 spools of White PETG, 5 to 6 spools of Black PETG, and optionally one small spool of flexible TPU if you want to print the soft fingertip inserts.
